The Impact the Order of the Arrow had on the Nor-Cal Jamboree, April 16-18, 2010

This once in a lifetime event, was a great way for Brothers of W3S and W3N two unite together as sections and show Scouts what our Order is all about. Arrowmen started arriving from all over to help us set up the OA Village on Thursday (a day before the festivities started). Arrowmen who were present had there hands filled with setting up many tee-pees, the pow-wow ring, the easy-ups, and whatever else that needed to be done to make the Village alive. Friday and Saturday marked the opening of our activities which accommodated Thousands of Scouts. These Scouts from all over Northern California would be able to sit down and make a craft, or listen to a tall-tail in one of the tee-pees. Saturday afternoon all the OA dancers got into their Regalia, and performed a four + hour pow-wow. This was a true pow-wow that included many drums and many more audience members. The Saturday Afternoon pow-wow was a crowd favorite. The Chief Scout Executive (Bob Mazzuca) came over and spent a few minutes taking in what the Order of the Arrow is all about. He saw the hard work that was put in by Arrowmen to make this Magnificat OA-Village happen.

Both Sections what to thank the many Arrowmen that made this OA-Village happen. We also want to thank the many Arrowmen that passed out the over 5500 postcards that promoted W3N and W3S Conclaves. Wherever you were at the Alameda County Fairgrounds, you always saw a Scout with a sash passing out postcards, or informing new Scouts about what we do in the Order of the Arrow. We hope that if an event is ever to happen again in this magnitude, our Order has a key role in making the event a worthwhile experience.

Great memories from the first ever 2009 W3S Conclave

We will remember our first Conclave as a great starting point for our Section. The three of use who were elected, that Saturday night, have been working hard on new plans to make next years Conclave unique, and fun in its own way.

The 220 over Arrowmen who descended to Royaneh, from September 25-27, 2009, experienced some in depth training, the OA Pow-Wow, Midway, and of course competitions. Thomas (Section Vice-Chief) wanted to incorporate some new events at our first Conclave so he thought of having a Water Polo competition. This was a fun event that required getting in the water (Arrowmen liked that idea due to the beastly heat).

Dinner was served by the Vigil Honors. It was a very nice treat to be served by the members of our Section who had reached that high point in our Order.

The Section election started right after Dinner, at 7 p.m. in the Dinning Hall. Each Lodge had the ability to have at most, 10 votes (for up to 10 Youth Arrowmen present at the election). Their was a total of 66 votes from all eight Lodges present in the hall. For a Officer to be elected, he would need at least 34 votes. Western Region Chief, David Harrell ran our 2009-2010 Section Election. Each round eliminated the least amount of votes collected by that one candidate. This would happen until a candidate reached a majority of the votes. Five Arrowmen from our Section ran for Section Chief. After an intense four rounds of voting, Alan Camarillo became our new Section W3S Chief. Four members ran for Section Vice-Chief. After three rounds of voting, Bradley Bottoms became our Section Vice-Chief. Three members ran for Section Secretary. After two rounds of voting, Indy Nelson became your Section Secretary.

Following the Saturday Night Show, Western Region Chief, David Harrell, ran OA Jeopardy at the theatre. Arrowmen from all eight Lodges participated in the competition by answering some history and raking up some points.

The next morning brought the closing show. Awards were presented to all the Section CVC's, Advisor's, Section officers and Advisors, and for the Most Valuable Lodge Award (In Auction sales). Achewon Nimat won the Conclave Award, and was presented with a plaque for hosting our first ever W3S Conclave.

We want to thank Achie for hosted this inaugural event in the beautiful Redwoods of Camp Royaneh. Their Lodge worked hard the weekend before preparing, arriving the Thursday before Conclave to do last minute changes, and during their fall Ordeal in which case they took down all the remaining tents that were used by Arrowmen during Conclave.
